Is Sitting on your Wallet or Mobile the Cause of your Back Pain?

As chiropractors we examine, diagnose and treat musculoskeletal disorders which basically means problems arising from bones, joints, muscles, nerves, ligaments and tendons. However we also try to do a little ‘detective work’ to find out what caused the injury as it is much easier to prevent a re-occurrence if we know what caused it in the first place.

Nowadays, we see a lot of people but especially a lot of men coming in with their wallet or their mobile phone in their back pocket. And while standing up the back pocket is a fine place to stow your wallet or your mobile, the trouble starts if you spend a lot of time sitting down.

Over time a wallet or phone in the back pocket can create an imbalance as one cheek is higher than the other causing a misalignment of the spine and pelvis. This can result in tight muscles and joints and lead to low back pain and even sciatica if the sciatic nerve becomes affected.

The solution to this is very simple. We fix your back problem and you start to remove your wallet or mobile phone from the back pocket before sitting down.
The best option is to move that wallet to your front pocket or better still get a small/light man bag for your keys, change, phone etc.
